Are You Holding On To Excess Weight!?!

Something that’s been on my heart a lot lately is how our society considers it ‘normal’ to carry and suppress any baggage that they may be carrying. I think Americans are famous for holding onto things while still trying to go about their daily fast-paced lives…All the while, ignoring’ anything that could get in the way of their productivity, and thinking that it will eventually go away on it’s own.

Baggage can be anything from hurt, guilt, unforgiveness, emotional pain, depression, anxiety, insecurity, or even shyness…. But it is basically ANYTHING that inhibits you from living the life, and fulfilling the purpose that God has for you!

I am talking about this issue on a food/exercise blog because although we all ‘deal’ with excess baggage differently, I have found that it is bound to show up in our lives in one place or another, (regardless of how well you think you are suppressing/ignoring it). One area that I think it tends to show-up the most in our lives is in our eating habits!

I know this to be true because I too have eaten my fair share of food that I wasn’t truly hungry for… thinking that it would ease my mind for  but a moment!  The problem with this, obviously, is that our burdens, (if not dealt with), will eventually start to show up on our bodies.

So how do we ‘deal’ with our baggage you may be wondering!?! Well, first I must say… Don’t try and do it alone! I have tried many times to ‘get rid of my burdens’ on my own…Which is yet another recipe for failure! (Really I have found that trying to do anything by myself is a set up for disappointment!)

What’s the reason for this you may ask!?! Well…We were never supposed to do things on our own! In fact, God created it so that we HAVE to depend on Him! I love this song because it reminds me to “Give everything, including my burdens to the Lord”

“He Wants It All” ~ By Forever Jones

Now, many of you may be thinking, “Well I have done X,Y, and Z just fine, and I have never needed God’s help…But what you don’t realize is, every talent, every opportunity, and even every breath that you breath has been a gift from your Father in heaven! So wether you recognize it or not, He is the reason you are able to do and have everything!

He loves you more than you could ever love anyone or anything on this earth (yes … even your own children!) And He has a purpose for your life whether you recognize it or not…But the only way for you fulfill that purpose is by first of all recognizing that you need Him, and secondly by asking for His help to let go of any baggage that you may be carrying.

The bible tells us in John 10:10 that “Jesus came to bring us life and life more abundantly”….And if you’re carrying excess baggage today, you know that you are not experiencing ‘abundant life’! So I challenge you today to look deep within, and see if you are holding onto anything that is robbing you of true joy and peace!

If the answer is yes, then ask yourself…Are you trying to do this life on your own!? If so, ask Jesus to come into your life and take the ‘reigns’ …Trust me, He can do a much better job than you can with your life, (because He created you!)
And if you already know Jesus as your Father and Savior, ask yourself this…Are you giving Him everything today!? The bible tells you that you can “Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. ” ~Psalm 55:22

So I am challenging you to make this your goal today: Give God Everything…And see if the burden isn’t lighter…(Hint: I can promise you from experience that it will be!)

GREAT POST!!!

I know that I am holding onto unnecessary pain and anxiety, and I know that too often I try to deal with it simply by covering it up with something else – be it food or general grouchiness or whatever. You are so right that what I really need to do is lean on Jesus for support – that is the only way to let go of the pain and truly live the life He has planned for me.

Thanks for writing this! :)

Beautiful post. I held onto unforgiveness for a long time towards my father. It was only after turning more and more to Christ that I was able to give it up and move on with my life. Things are so much better now. They are plenty of other things too that don’t get better until I turn to God. Even if the situation doesn’t change, I am better able to face it knowing God is for me. Loved reading this! You are so wonderful Katie.

Tina, I think YOU are WONDERFUL!!! :) But we both know it’s really Jesus in us that makes us ‘appear’ so great! ;)

Thanks for being so transparent about your father, it is SO true that unless we get filled up on His love, we can never truly love and/or forgive others … Especially when it is a ‘really hard’ situation! But when we learn of his love and forgiveness for us, we are able to extend it towards others!

This is wonderful Katie. Truly spirit-led! I know I have held on to the need for perfection. This had led me to feel like I need to have control over things… which is nearly impossible! I just end up feeling guilty and defeated. I have learned the importance of letting God take control over my life.

In terms of eating, I just was reminded of this scripture: “Off your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God- This is your spirtual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” – Romans 12: 1-2

Wow… that packs a lot of truth!!

I am so blessed you’re my sister! :) You’re so wise… wisdom of the Lord!

xoxo

Thank you so much for writing this. You are so right. I often forget that I am not in this alone. I tend to put all of those burdens on my shoulders and think that if I ask for help, whether it be from God or a fellow Christian, that I will be looked upon as weak. I’m always trying to be the one to help everyone else out, that sometimes I need to remember that I have just as many flaws and I need to lay my burdens down. You’re awesome girl.
