No More DIETS!!! (Clearing the Confusion Once and For All!)

I recently got an e-mail from a friend about Dashing Dish that really encouraged me! In that e-mail there was something that she said that really stood out, which was this:

“America is so deceived (especially women) to look a certain size. Girls starve themselves or try the latest fad diet and end up binging because of the calorie restriction. Then they end up feeling guilty and worse than before they started dieting. It’s a vicious circle. I want to work to impart healthy eating habits among the young women in America. I want them to know who they are in Christ, not what the world says they are.” ~Danielle Frontiera

This statement is truly inspiring and straight to the heart of why I started this site to begin with! There are SO many myths out there about the latest ‘diet’, how to drop 10 pounds in a week, and what foods are ‘good’ and ‘bad’ for you.  While I may not be an expert, I am someone who has tried many diets, fads, and unhealthy routes of losing weight, all to see that they backfire and end in failure.

I can also (thankfully) say, that I am someone who has lost weight and kept if off for years (after working at a bagel shop for years…Ahh :))! I finally did it the ‘right way’ by getting serious with myself and God and by going on a journey to learn (through God’s guidance) how to get healthy and treat my body right! I can honestly say that I have learned how to get in shape all while ENJOYING food, fitness, and my body (after all, our bodies truly are a wonderful gift)!

I say this to encourage people.  I know what it is like to want to lose weight and not understand why, despite the best of efforts, you feel defeated and frustrated! On the flip side, I also know what it is like to enjoy food, never feel deprived, and be healthy doing it! That is why I have created Dashing Dish.  I hope to share the knowledge that I have gained over the years on how I got in shape in a healthy way, that will ultimately last a lifetime!

I also understand that not everyone loves to cook like I do (or has the time for that matter).  That is why I decided that in addition to the weekly recipes, I will be posting a weekly “tip” blog where I share what I have learned about fitness, eating healthy, and share strategies that have helped me get fit and healthy for life!  I will be sharing things like how to eat healthy while eating out, ideas for no-cook meals and snacks, and hopefully teach people how to get healthy, one step at a time!

My ultimate goal is to to dispel some of the common myths that eating healthy means eating celery, carrots and rice cakes…or that you need to starve to lose weight! I hope that one tip, fact, or truth at a time can fill people with the knowledge they need to be healthier and ultimately change their life for the better… and for good!

While I’m on this topic, I must also give attribute to a wonderful book I was given during my journey that helped me a lot.  It is titled, “You are not what you weight” by Lisa Bevere.  This book is amazing, and I highly recommend it if you would like to learn how to break free from dieting, and/or any other unhealthy view of food/weight/behavior/or body image and gain a healthy perspective that is based on truth!

(If you are interested in the book, I found it on Amazon for $10~ {http://www.amazon.com/You-Are-Not-What-Weigh/dp/1599790750/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1269541559&sr=8-1})

I’m super excited about reading your weekly tips & I think it’s so great that you’re writing this blog! I haven’t read You Are Not What You Weigh, but I have read Kissed the Girls and Made Them Cry and I have to say that she is an INCREDIBLE writer, so I’m assuming that book is just as scripture & truth-filled. I’m definitely gonna have to check it out. :)

I just found your website, and I’m pretty sure the Lord directed me here. I have a very unhealthy relationship with food, and self esteem. I’m tired of starving to try and lose weight. For someone who loves to cook, and really enjoys food in general, the thought of restricing to constant hungry belly is disheartening for me. Thanks for the book recommendation.
