Although that is obvious to me now, it is a distinction you should make in the recipe. You just say "pudding mix" not instant. It appears others had this issue too.

I am so sad to say this was not a winning recipe for me. Mainly it was the frosting. It came out completely soupy, unusable. I tried all of my tricks to thicken it, even letting it set in the fridge for awhile to see if it help. It was a lost cause. If anyone has any hints to pass along, I would appreciate it.

I made these cupcakes for my high school bake sale, and they were a HUGE hit! Check out how mine came out here: http://cannella-vita.blogspot.com/2013/01/creamsicle-cupcakes.html

P.S. Orange Creamsicles are my all time favorite ice cream!

I was so delighted with this recipe after making it that I branched out and tried a few twists, both of which were amazing!

Chocolate-covered Strawberry: strawberry cake mix and diet Sprite with sugar-free chocolate fudge pudding in the frosting

Maple Chocolate: sugar-free devil's food and diet cream soda with sugar-free butterscotch pudding in the frosting

I can't wait to try a pink-lemonade cupcake (I'm thinking vanilla cake mix with diet cherry 7up and then a vanilla pudding with fresh lemon juice). Anyone have other ideas? I'm thinking also of chocolate cake + diet cherry coke with chocolate frosting (maybe w/ some cherry juice?)

Thanks so much for the recipe! Everyone wants to know my secret to super moist cake and light but creamy frosting!

I've made these three times now. The first time they turned out perfect. The last two times the frosting will not thicken up and is just thin and soupy. Anyone know why?

Made these today and they were really good. I added the zest of one orange to the cake batter and the zest of a second orange to the "frosting". Super yummy.
