Snack Time!!!

April 27th, 2010 - Food News

I have to say, I really look forward to my ‘snacks’ every day! There is something about that mid-day ‘mini’ meal that really gives me an energy boost, and gets me ready for my afternoon workouts! (I generally workout with my sister around 5-5:30 pm during the week.)

I also look forward to snacks because they usually don’t require a lot of thought or preparation, and yet they always seem to be pretty satisfying! I generally eat my snack around 2-3pm (or whenever I’m hungry), and they are usually around 150-200 calories.  I also try to incorporate some form of protein and complex carbs/fiber to keep me full until dinner time. So…In honor of ‘Snack Time” I thought I’d share some of my favorite snack ideas! And I’d love to hear some of your favorites too!:)

chobani-1

(Today’s snack for me is On The Go…So I will be having a Granny smith Apple and a Chobani (vanilla) Greek Yogurt with 1 Stevia packet!)

My Favorite On The GO Snacks:

  • Greek Yogurt (I like buying the plain or vanilla flavors and adding 1 Stevia packet and other creative toppings!)
  • ZONE bars (I like Mint Chocolate, Chocolate Caramel, and Peanut Butter Chocolate)
  • Protein Brownies
  • Fuji Apples
  • Cheese Sticks
  • Snack-Size Ziplock Bag Filled with High Protein Cereal (Like Fiber One, or Kashi)
  • Mojo Bars (by Cliff~ I like the Peanut Butter Pretzel ones!)
  • Bagel Thins (These are new, Have ~ 110 cals/6g protein/5g fiber…and are Pretty Tasty!)
  • Zucchini Muffins
  • Quaker Chewy Bars with Protein (100 cal/6 g protein per bar!)

My Favorite At Home Snacks: (aka~ things you have to be at home to whip up!)

  • Popcorn (I love to flavor mine with Parmesan cheese and seasonings, or make it sweet/salty with a dash of stevia and some salty peanuts!)
  • Smoothies (Mm-mm! My favorite snack of all! Although, when I make them ‘snack’ portion, I use less protein powder and toppings, so it doesn’t turn into a ‘meal’)
  • Sweet Potato’s (Turned into fries/chips/or just as is microwaved with stevia, cinnamon, and frozen cool whip on top!)
  • Protein Cake’s
  • Greek Yogurt Parfaits (Greek Yogurt layered with Fruit, Nuts, PB, or Cereal)
  • Cottage Cheese “Ice Cream” (Cottage Cheese thrown in the blender, with fruit/cocoa powder/pumpkin/or PB, and stevia, and chilled in the freezer for 10 min!)
  • Egg White Omelet with tons of Veggies!
  • Frozen Fruit (Strawberries are my Fave Frozen!)

Also… One of my favorite summer time snacks (summer’s coming soon! woo hoo!) are Starbucks Frappuccino’s. I am determined to “replicate” the recipe at home using healthy ingredients! That being said~ I’ll be working on it, and posting what I come up with next week!  So be on the look out for that!:)

What’s your favorite “Go To” snack when you’re On The Go?!

My favorite snacks are a lot like yours. I LOVE cottage cheese. I get the 3 lb. container from Sam’s and it goes fast! I also love bagel thins with peanut butter or yoplaits smoothie mixes. I love snacks so much my husband often comments that I buy more snack food than meal food when we go shopping. Oops! :)

I really like the Luna protein bars (cookie dough or chocolate cherry are my 2 favs) especially when I’m craving some chocolate, but other than that I really enjoy my carrot, beet, and apple juices or just a simple piece of fruit!

I have lately been loving raw veggies (bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots) with hummus. I especially love the Sabra brand or homemade if I’m feeling adventurous. I’ll also eat anything with almond butter on top :-)
