We are excited to announce that here at Dashing Dish we will be sharing a weekly devotional both on the blog section of Dashing Dish and sent out via email! If you have been following Dashing Dish for any length of time, you know that we are all about nourishing the body & soul, which got us thinking... If we send out new recipes every week, why not send a bite of the Word of God to nourish the soul!?
These devotionals are truly meant to be a snack to get you through a busy day or week, but we highly recommend sitting at the Lord's table and fine dining with Him daily so you can truly be satisfied! We hope they bring refreshment and are like a cool drink to your soul in the middle of a busy (and maybe even draining week!) Blessings xo Katie and the Dashing Dish team
“Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.” - Galatians 5:25
Sometimes a slower pace does not provide a smoother pace. We hear a lot about the importance of slowing down, so this was in interesting revelation for me. On Tuesday, my little girl and I watched a group horseback riding lesson. One little gal in the class immediately caught my attention. The instructor had cued the class to increase their cadence from a trot to a canter. The rest of the class obeyed the command. Their pace was markedly faster, it required more focus and more courage, yet it provided a noticeably smoother ride. There was a lovely rhythm and flow that those riders enjoyed when they left the choppy trot. This little girl on the other hand was afraid. She pulled those reins back tightly. She held on to the saddle horn with white knuckles to keep from coming straight off as she bounced around like a bobblehead doll. It wasn't pretty, and boy, did it look uncomfortable. She would ask that horse to canter, but then simultaneously rein it in. Just a step away from a smooth, beautiful ride she instead tolerated taking a beating from trotting along because of her fear.
This made me think, how often does the Lord ask us to move faster than we're naturally inclined to on our own? Maybe we resist the pace out of fear, or we simply resist working a little bit harder. What I realized was this – when we loosen the reins, when we focus on His rhythm, when we obey the command to step it up, the experience becomes MORE comfortable. The ride is smoother, and we feel LESS beaten up. The Lord may ask us to stretch ourselves. He may cue us to leave the seemingly safe, albeit uncomfortable trot of life, but He will never beckon us into danger. He'll never ask us to leave our comfort zone without providing a smoother canter to settle into. If the Lord is moving quickly in your life and you're freaked out, let go of the horn and let Him secure you. If He's calling you to move at His pace and it’s a little scary, trust Him and loosen the reins. If He's nudging you to put forth a little more effort so you can keep in step with Him, follow His rhythm. On our own, we tend to trot, but when we take the faith step to canter at His command He upholds us, secures us, and makes for us a smooth path. Enjoy the perfect, divine pace He establishes for you today.
