"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have received as a gift from God, and that you are not your own property? You were bought with a price you were actually purchased with the precious blood of Jesus and made His own. So then, honor and glorify God with your body." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Imagine with me for a moment that you’ve just purchased something of great value. The treasure caught your eye and you had to have it. You were so completely captivated that you were willing to pay the highest price to make it yours. Now, imagine that you’ve entrusted that special treasure into the hands of another to care for it while you’re away. When you return, you find that instead of caring for and carefully overseeing your cherished piece, the person you trusted neglected their great responsibility. You find your treasure broken, worn, tattered, tarnished, neglected and far from its original, unspoiled condition. How would you respond?
We always tell our kids when they borrow something that belongs to someone else, "You need to take even better care of something borrowed than something of your own." When someone entrusts us to care for something of value we need to honor that responsibility. Our bodies are no exception. The bottom line is that our body does not belong to us. Our body belongs to God, we are simply borrowing it. We were purchased by Him at a high price! Does that change how you view yourself? When you think of your body being the borrowed property of God Himself does it change how you care for it? Your life, including your body is a cherished treasure entrusted to you to care for! Today, how will you take better care of your something borrowed?
