"Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart." Philippians 4:8
Do you ever worry? Or, do you get wound up inside when you feel out of control? Me too. You know what gets my peace in a tizzy every time? Thinking about things that simply aren't true. You know, the imagined scenarios. The what-if's, or fearful outcomes. It only takes about half a second spent on social media, news, or even in conversation with others to threaten our peace and hope. And, why? Predictions, suppositions, opinions, assumptions. How often do we surrender our peace to ideas and suggestions that aren't even REAL? Can there be an element of real-ity to them? Maybe. However, God's word doesn't tell us to center our mind on things that COULD be real. No! It says, whatever IS true, think on those things. When I reign in my thoughts and get intentional about what I'm thinking about it becomes much easier to put a flag in the ground and reclaim my peace. It's a moment to moment deal. It requires being present. The bottom-line truth though is, what's real (true) is what's happening now – right now. Getting myself worked up imagining the gazillions of scenarios (most of which are out of my control) that could occur an hour, a day, a year, a decade from now, make you and me a glaring, wide open target. It leaves us vulnerable to be pierced by fiery, nasty arrows aimed directly at our peace, hope and joy. So, here's what's true in my world right this second, here's where I will center (and re-center) my thoughts on, would you like to borrow it? My family is healthy and safe. We have money in the bank. We have food and clean water. There's not a natural disaster threatening us right now, our country is not under attack. And, ultimately, what is true now and what remains true always, is that the King of Kings sits securely on His throne and isn't at all in a tizzy or caught by surprise as life unfolds. The Source of all peace isn't stewing over what-if's today. He’s got you. Take a moment to put your own flag in the ground and reclaim your peace! What is true and real about your life right now? Focus on it, and allow His peace to wash over you as you trust the One who leads you into all truth.
