To make individual trifles, grab 4 clear glasses or cups. To make one big trifle, grab a medium glass bowl or trifle bowl.
Add apples (peeled and diced), syrup/honey, water, spices to a medium non-stick skillet sprayed with cooking spray. Cook over medium heat, and simmer for about 5 minutes or until apples are tender and sauce thickens, stirring occasionally. Turn off heat and let cool, (important: let apples cool completely before layering trifle, or they will melt the whipped topping)
Layer apples, crust/cookie layer and whipped topping, preferably ending with the whipped topping. Top with cinnamon and low sugar syrup, honey, or my clean eating caramel sauce if desired! Store in the fridge until ready to serve.
