French Toast Protein Shake

Here's the Dish

I imagine that many people have fond childhood memories of the house filling up with the sweet smell of cinnamon while waiting in anticipation for the warm french toast that was to come that dripped with melted butter and maple syrup! Now you can have all of your favorite flavors whipped up into a thick and creamy protein shake that is so good it could honestly pass as a milkshake! Yes, I did say you could have french toast and a milkshake for breakfast! Now that is worth waking up for, if you ask me!

The estimated total time to make this recipe is 5-10 minutes.

Put everything into a blender and blend until creamy consistency is reached! Top with light whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon if desired, and Enjoy!

1/2 cupFat free cottage cheese 1
1Scoop vanilla protein powder 2
1 tspMaple extract (or 2 tbs sugar free maple syrup)
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
DashNutmeg or pumpkin pie spice
3-5Stevia packets (or sweetener of choice to taste)
1/2-1 cupWater (Alter this according to desired consistency)
5-10Ice Cubes (Depending on how thick you like it, use less for a thinner consistency)
Optional: 1/2 tsp xanthan gum 3, 1/2 tsp butter extract

1 Cottage cheese may sound strange, but TRUST me… this is what makes the ‘MILKSHAKE’ consistency! Also, if you are sensitive to dairy, you can use tofu to get the same consistency!

2 I use Designer Whey Protein powder. It has 100 calories per scoop. I buy the vanilla flavor because it’s a good base to add whatever flavors you want to make. It is also all natural. You can buy it from Kroger, GNC, Trader Joe’s, Amazon, or

3 You can get xanthan gum from most grocery stores in the gluten free section! Just a pinch of it makes your shake so thick and creamy!

Katie's Tip!

This shake is a great meal replacement on a busy morning, or as a post workout snack!

Lactaid makes a lactose-free cottage cheese. Not sure if that’ll help or not, but worth a shot! Not very many stores carry it, so call around.

For desserts and shakes and such, always use silken tofu. I haven’t tried a shake with silken tofu (although I’ve always wanted to but just haven’t gotten around to doing that yet), but I would maybe use 1/2 cup of silken tofu since the recipe requires 1/2 cup cottage cheese? I think it depends on your taste so try more or less. I hope it comes out great!

Love your shakes! On days I don’t work out, I don’t want to consume too much protein. Is there something you can think of to substitute for the protein powder or maybe I should try just leaving it out?

I just made this with the addition of a few spoonfuls of pumkin puree (about 1/4 of a 15 oz can) for a “pumkin pie” shake. Yum!
